VIIth Legion WIP: Sicarian

Hello again guys and another finished Item for the VIIth Legion. The work horse of the armoured contingent for my company, the trusty Sicarian. I find these tanks so good, i'm thinking of getting a second to add to the company.

This guy is my tool for tackling anything the enemy has. Typically i'll let him sit in the rear of my lines and blast away at enemy heavy infantry or light vehicles. If something bigger shows its face and i don't have a dedicated AT to deal with it, can at least try for a rending hit. Something useful for those pesky flare shields. Check out Wadeys post on Sicarians here.

I wanted to add a little character to the model so i've added A techmarine in the commanders cupola. I imagined him from his evelated position being able to relay info to the company praetor, so with a simple conversion, had him speaking into the tanks vox.

The tank was painted very simply. With a white undercoat i brush painted GW Yerial Yellow with a single coat and then touch up coat to make it even. I then washed the recessed areas with a brown wash and in some areas a finer black wash. I then painted the tracks and weapons using boltgun metal and washed them with black. That provided the foundation for the "off the factory floor" look. I then added the transfers and proceeded to stipple very lightly over the raised areas with a sponge dipped in bolt gun metal, where paint would have been chipped off. The trick here is to not get too zealous with it. Take your time, even if it means you waste paint on the palette. i will usually give it two runs allowing the chipping effect to build up in heavy areas. After that its a case of layering weathering pigments onto the lower sections of the tank and a liberal coat of matt varnish to seal the pigments. I gave a liberal covering of black over the exhaust ports too, to give it that real promethium guzzling feel. All that reamins after that is the little details, painting vision slits, heat stress on the las cannons etc.
