VIIth Legion WIP: Breachers Squad I

Heys guys, spraggy again with another post about the yellow guys from the VIIth legion.
Not so much a work in progress but more of a work finished is my first breacher squad....finally

A galaxy in flames

A galaxy in flames
These guys are my bread and butter so i've tried to make them encompass the theme and story of the army, that of breacher marines pouring through the shattered concrete walls of a fortress or that of a starship. Ive equipped them with melta guns and breaching charges, thinking these would be the best all round tools for a squad of this purpose. In game it means they can face off against anything and hurt it to some degree whether at range or in melee.

With that in mind i have chipped and weathered the shields and armour to a good degree. I used a black powder lightly and worked up to a pale grey to show the soot and powdered concrete of where they would be fighting. I added small sections of razor wire and blasted concrete with rio bar sticking out to add to the feel. lastly i added a stack of spent bolter and heavy bolter shells all over the bases cos nothing says "firefight" like a bucketload of shell casings everywhere!

  1. Great work! I have also started a little IF force (obviously there will be breachers), and if I get them to look half as hardened and badass as yours I'll be satisfied.

I'm just curious about one thing: I've seen some people use the boarding set shields instead of the breacher ones. Is there any reason for that, outside of aesthetics? It's true that probably they look better, but I'm reticent to mix mkIII armor with 40k arms, even if they can be barely seen thanks to the shields.

Hope to see more VIIth soon!

    1. For me the reason for using the boarding shield set was aesthetics. I felt the boarding shield looked more, practical and functional which to me set the Imperial Fists way of thinking. I did hesitate due to the MkV arms used on the arm but found out real quick it is almost completely lost within the model. I am a real fluff nazi so can understand you feeling reticent about mixing the different marks, but in the end i found the badass look far, far exceeded the mismatch of the look of the arms.....which in the end only i really can see.

I just got confirmation of my next batch of resin being shipped so there is much....much,much more of the VIIth to come.

    2. Thanks for the answer! I'm not a fan either of mixing different marks, although I could accept some mixes like mkII/III (IIRC they share the same basic structure), or even other marks when it comes to pauldrons and helmets, or if somebody is representing a late heresy army, with scavenged and repaired armors using whatever parts are left. However, I don't like the idea of using mkVII parts, as it's supposed to be a 40k era armor. Nonetheless, you made me notice that mkV armors use the same, or at least very simillar arms that the mkVII, so it might actually be "fluff adequate" to use that set.
About the aesthetics, I agree that boarding shields look better than the breachers shields, but I'll give the latter a go, mainly because I've already bought a breachers squad, so adding the boarding set would get really expensive o.O. If I don't really like it, there's always the conversion and sculpting way, but avoiding extra work would be nice.

Nice to know about your order, I'm in the UK temporally so I'm definitely visiting WH World, and obviously the FW store ^^

    3. Lovely looking squad. I found your blog as I was doing some image searching as I was thinking about getting some breachers for my XIII Legion, but I wasn't sure about the wing shields either (and I'm not a fan of the sealed off helms, come to think of it). Did you have any difficulty getting the "normal" MKIII bolter arms to line up with the MKVII shields?

  2. A squad of Breachers always look good anyway but these look great, the battered shields look spot on.
