Iron Warriors Army: Complete

G'day folks, Macca here with my now very playable Iron Warriors army. Not just that, but I took the photos on my new Imperial Sector realm of battle board. Overall, the army was a really fun project, and whilst nothing too crazy happened with the conversions, the little bits I did I feel add something unique to the force.

First up, I have Narik Dreygur leading his unit of Vorax Automata. This is a nasty unit, but nowhere near as scary as Castellax...

There's also my Iron Warrior Contemptors, complete with chainfists and grav gun hands.

Of course, there's the command squad, led by Kyr Vhalen for +5 to their badassery rolls.

Tyrant Siege Terminators. Why? Because my enemies' tears are the sweetest of nectar.

My custom Deredeo. How custom? Well, not very, this was a pretty subtle conversion, with some Thallax chain-bayonets attacked to his main guns, an Iron Warriors icon on his left knee and physical hazard stripes added to the right of his torso and his right shin. The only reason I made them physical instead of just painting them (which is like 10 times easier) is that I wanted to make him match my existing Dreadnoughts.

Graviton Rapiers. Why? Well, not many people have them, so it's something different. I also made the guns removable so I can use quad mortars or quad lasers in the future.

The weathering is pretty restrained I feel, with a tiny smidge of rust and some chips and scratches.

Iron Havocs with Autocannons...

...Iron Havocs with Heavy Bolters

The Tormentor.

I love this tank so friggen' much, just for the rule of cool.

Iron Within, Iron Without

I hope you enjoy the army, if all goes well, I will also be doing a video battle report on this table and with this army come this weekend! Btw, if you're in Ballarat, hit me up and if I'm around, you can come over for a game of 30k.

Iron Warriors Contemptor Talon

G'day folks, Macca here with another quick update on my Iron Warriors. Today I finished off my second dreadnought, so both the dreads I have are built, painted and based.

Overall, I'm happy, however these models tend to suffer from a little 'too much going on'. What do I mean? Well, there are very prominent hazard stripes sculpted onto both shoulders, both greaves, one knee, and in two places on the torso. Enough of the hazards already! In order to make them work, I had to play around with a few powders, weathering and damaging them in order to subdue them into reality. To be honest, I probably won't buy this kit again, I'd rather a Death Guard Contemptor and I would just add my own hazards.

I actually brought the chainfists from Forge World, thought they looked like ass, and lazy ass at that, (normally I wouldn't bag a sculpt, but when I can grab a chainsword from my bits box and perfectly replicate the result in 5 seconds, that's a lazy sculpt) so, I decided to use the same trick off my Raven Guard and used bolter chain bayonets to create a 'jaws of life' scissor effect.

When it came to the bases, I used cork, textured paint from Vallejo, small shrubs from Army Painter and Secret Weapon's snow effects. To see how I did the snow, there is of course this video I made right here. Oh, and as another nod to Paramar, I used one of my 'ruined contemptor' casts, giving my contemptor something to stomp on.

That's all she wrote, see you next time,

The Emperor's Children - Some support

Hey all, Wadey here!

Well the weekend is upon us and I'm sitting here drinking coffee and watching Thomas with my 4 year old (reckless I know) and I thought why not use the time to bang up another post for everyone!

For today I decided to show you guys one of my Mortis Contemptors and my Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw..

I'll start with my Mortis. I took a single Mortis to a 2k tourney recently. I kitted it with dual twin linked Lascannons, though I magnetized the weapons so I can change it in the future for different load outs. I went with the Mortis for some anti flyer, although it turned out I didn't need anti flyer as no body took flyers LOL!

The colours I used are outlined in the following post http://agalaxyinflames.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/iii-legion-emperor-children-part-1.html though this time before I applied the Gehenna gold I firstly put a coat of Balthasar gold down which made the Gehenna nicer to work with and  better look afterwards.

I have continued to use the 'Ruined Temple" bases from Secret Weapon Miniatures. For the base I added a little bit of extra rubble but not to much as I didn't want to take away from the good job SWM have done on the base.

I really enjoyed building and painting this model and am looking forward to painting the other two I have waiting to be finished! So that was my Mortis, now for the mighty Anvillus pattern Dreadclaw.

Now, as much as I would love to say this was a joy to build and paint I can't... I hated working with this model. It was a bitch to put together, it was awkward to paint and many times it nearly ate wall at high speed... BUT the end result, for mine, was totally worth it. Now as you will see I didn't put any Emperor's Children etched brass or decals on this model. I was going to but due to the shape there really aren't many places to put markings without having WAY to many or having them uneven..

So, I know people think this model is shit and a waste of time, Macca being one of them.. It not only served its purpose but it served it extremely well during the last tourney. As a delivery method for my Deathstar it as amazing, and it's various flame abilities are super handy! On the turn it arrives via Deep strike it deals a flame attack that spreads out D3+3" from the hull and does S6 AP5 damage and vehicles are hit on their weakest Armour value (did glance a Sicaran).. on top of that during the movement phase any unit it flies over cops D6 S5 AP5 hits!

Again, I used a "Ruined Temple" base but added nothing this time as I love this base the way it is. I pinned the base to the stand as the model itself has a little bit of weight to it.

Well there you go, my Mortis and Anvillus. Cheers for dropping in for a look there is much more to come! For any avid EC fans I've got a FB page dedicated to III Legion so jump on and give me a like and share your EC stuff for everyone to see! https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Pride-of-the-Emperor/207046882799363 Is the link for the page.

Cheers guys,

Wadey.

Raven Guard Scimitar Jetbikes and Contemptor Dreadnought

Ho ho ho, Merry Friday!

Macca here, showcasing this weeks work. Believe it or not, these models are from my Death Guard Legion, with the bikes repainted, and the dread converted.

On to the show.

I have given all the bikes a subtle lean by VERY carefully heating the flying stands to curve them. These stands are very brittle, and also, can melt, so be very careful if you attempt this at home. The Raven Guard jetbike picture from book III was my guide to these, and lucky for me, my previous Raven Guard forces used the same tones, so I was able to blend these bad boys in well, the only major change from the book being the single red trim shoulder pad.

On the underside, I used a light blue wash to create the afterburner effect on the engine tips.

Raaaarrrrggghhhh! Chainfist! I was not happy with the FW chainfist sculpt for the the contemptor. I t just looked lazy, and it's a real shame, since the guy who sculpted it has done almost every other weapon in the Horus Heresy range and nailed every one. So, I used the boltgun chain-bayonets as fingers, partly because it now IS a chainfist, but also, it almost looks like a shark side on, a possible nod to the Carcharadons of 40k, you never know...

(I'd also like to note, it's not my idea, I'm not the first guy to do this, all I did was pose it and paint it this way.)

Again, a soft blue wash blended into the silver gives a real burnished metal look, like the material has been subjected to great heat and cooled again.

This is probably the last thing a group of traitor marines saw...

Arms off, and you can see the decals a little clearer. I filed away all the Death Guard iconography to turn this bad boy Raven Guard, and in the blank space on the chest, I applied the medium sized Raven decal. I love it, it's again, similar to the picture in book III of a Raven Guard dread.

On a side note, all of these guys are 100% HAND PAINTED, just to see if I still had it in me after painting quite a bit with the airbrush over the last 6 months. I'm pretty pleased with the result, especially with the burnished metals. Well, that's all for me, I have a 1500 point game tomorrow and I will try and get some happy snaps from it, no promises,

Lots of love, Macca

Destroyed Contemptor

I was talking with Keepy about casting up some of my sculpts for gaming. I decided that as I have a few Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts, I should cast up some wrecked ones. I used a very simple casting of part of the hull, and put it on a base I previously sculpted. I then set about sculpting more rocks onto the base using green stuff, followed by adding grit and rock to the surface from a GW basing kit.

The Pinkysil I have used is just a 1:1 mix, and it is a viscous silicon liquid. I poured it into an old McDonalds container lid as it was the desired size, you don't want to waste this stuff as it isn't cheap. The model to be cast was then coated in a release agent and placed into the pinky. Once dried, I gently peeled it out. I then mixed my resin, and poured, time had to be taken with a toothpick to pick out air bubbles, as I am casting this on my kitchen bench where the photos have more light.

So, there it is, nothing too crash hot, I am not trying to recreate perfect contemptors, I just want something to use for a destroyed dread instead of making a circle of dice.

Well, that's all for now, I will have another fiddle and drop some paint on it sometime soon, for now, tata!
