A Galaxy In Flames Video: Decals, Oil Pin Washes and Oil Streaking

So, another day and another video tutorial! Today we are taking a look at applying Decals, Oil Pin Washes and Oil Streaks. I have put this video together with warts and all, if I have trouble mixing a paint, you'll see it, if a decal doesn't apply, you'll see it. This video continues on from the rust effects done in the first video, and aims to take it from a basic, rusty fortification, to a fancy rusty fortification.

I hope you enjoy the video, see you next time!

A Galaxy In Flames Video: Heavy Rust Effects

G'day guys, and welcome to another AGIF YouTube video. This is our first ever 1080p video, and it marks a 20 minute long tutorial on how to do some pretty extreme rust effects using a Vallejo chipping medium. This technique is excellent for white-washing tanks and other armour, but I have used a home-made fortification to demonstrate. You can watch the video here, or directly on our YouTube channel. I have included the pics from the end of the video, and these will give you a pretty good idea of where you will end up after stage one of the weathering process.

Thanks for watching, keep an eye out for part 2, where I will apply decals to this, before adding streaking and picking a few details out.

Progress for the VIIth Legion 32nd Vanguard company

It has been so long that i had forgotten how to use a paint brush, but life has taken some turns for me and i am able to hobby again. So where i left off about a year ago i had a few pics of the very initial stages of painting for a vanguard company of imperial fists. This company was gonna be all about breachers and armour using the Stone Gauntlet Rite of War.

So with a local fun tournament just over the horizon run by the guys at A Traitors Hand, I've pulled my finger out and got back to putting some more paint on these guys. Here are a few pics of my recent progress

Perturabo: The Lord of Iron, The Hammer of Olympia, Master of the IVth Legion

G'day, it's been a while in-between drinks here at AGIF, but today I just finished my Perturabo model (which arrived yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, I was REALLY keen to get him done).

The Family

Can you say "daddy issues"?

Ok, point to note here, I magnetised both hand options for Perturabo, but I sunk both magnets deep into the forearm of Perturabo, rather than drill into the hands and risk damaging them. This of course is because Perturabo can take Foregebreaker optionally, however his girly arms mean that he cannot strike with it at initiative like Ferrus. (Even tho Perturabo is fuck-huge compared to all the other Primarchs released so far, Lorgar is like chest high on this guy. Morale of the story: all show and no-go.)

The base is very basic dull tones, light blues and soft greys and bones defined it, as well a splenty of rust-orange weathering powder from Secret Weapon.

The base of course comes in a fuckzillion parts. I have decided that Forge World's sculptors are starting to go insane from being locked up in a resin sweat shop cranking out minis, and the bases are showing the edge of reason. Comparing Perturabo's base to Angron, I can't help but feel that if Angron was released today, his base would be 54mm tall and made up of 40 dead marines. Which is fine.... in any case, every part of the base is magnetised so that it won't fall apart on my shelf.

Lucky thing to note, the magnet in his hand was able to adhere to a hidden one on the base. This means I have a place to keep the hand, and thanks to the location, nobody will probably notice it.

Oh, I also took some quick snaps of Perturabo with the Tormentor. "Yo dawg, we gonna pimp you ride. That busted ass Shadowsword? We went and put a hatch on the rear, void shields on top, and 180" mag wheels on each side. Thanks MTV for pimpin' Pert's ride!"

So another Primarch on the shelf... with the books, my Mrs likes to point to this as my cabinet of financial shame.

So, if you like it or loathe it, let me know,

Narik Dreygur, Praevian Consul of the Iron Warriors: Part 2

Wow, hasn't a lot happened already this weekend? (That's of course for our overseas bloggers, for those of us here in Australia, it's actually closer to Monday than Friday now). Anyway, enough of that, here's what you came here to see: Narik Dreygur!

This miniature is incredibly detailed. Something approaching the actual Character Series, in my humble opinion! Check out the grim specter of death emblazoned onto his tabbard.

I also elected to paint some knee hazards, something I don't often do. After painting it and comparing it to the Forge World model, I noticed that's exactly how they did it too!

There are also 3 distinct gouges I have painted onto his power fist. I'm gonna call these the Wolverine marks.

This lens on his pistol is absolutely tiny. It was a bitch to paint, but in the end, I got there.

A Praevian Consul in all his glory.

Check out his banner....

What do you think? If you want to know how I did any particular, please feel free to let me know. Also feel free to leave feedback in general. Also, a shout out to Eadwine for supplying me with this miniature. Without him, I couldn't have got it without paying some price gouging fuck my first born baby, so cheers for that mate!

The Iron Without: Tyrant Siege Terminators Part 2

So, part 2. This was a very fun project, which I literally smashed out in two afternoons. Normally I wouldn't paint so fast, but I was REALLY keen to get these guys done. They are only to a table-top standard, but I'm pretty happy anyway, and I can always go back and add some more details at a later date.

So, on with the show huh?

I have used the minotaur symbol again, on the left side of the Cyclones and on the right knee pad. The Minotaur guarded the Labyrinth of King Minos, now these Minotaurs guard Perturabo's. I also did quite a bit of chipping and weathering on the hazard stipes, as I think it suits them being more damaged as line troops.

Again, with markings I have the IVth Legion marking on the right hand side of the cyclone. The old decals I used for this did not apply as crisp as new ones, possibly as the material is thicker. In any case, it was a disappointment to me. I won't hide it because it is what it is.

Now, we get to the snow effects. The rock on this base is actually cork. I used the method which Toby highlighted in his tutorial to create them. Find that one here.

As for the snow effects themselves, I used some Secret Weapon products, and Mr Justin himself gave me a few pointers as I had not worked with this product before (props to him for taking the time to chat with a nobody when he is busy running a business). Overall, I'm VERY happy with the snow, as I want a slushy eve-of-spring look. His video tutorial on this effect can be found here, and the product itself here, for those who are curious. I do highly recommend this, as the results I got were easy to achieve and look pretty good for a first-time out.

Lastly, here's a pic of the Siege Master's 'smart bolter', representing his omni-scope. I do apologise for the dark photo, in person the screen is a grey-blue and the lines on it are near-white. As it's overcast here, I have failed spectacularly with my camera to capture the image. (Until my new macro lens arrives for my good camera in the next week or two.)

So, what do you think? Let me know if you like or dislike my 10-hour Tyrant painting efforts,

~Macca
