Imperial Fists Librarian

I have always loved the psyker aspect of GW games. The other worldly space wizard aspect is amazing for creating wonder and horror in a grimdark setting.

A Galaxy in FlamesNow unfortunately, the VIIth legion did not field its members of the librarius after the edict of Nikea was introduced. They weren't even reintroduced into the rank and file. Instead, Dorn mandated that they should be confined to barracks upon the Phalanx until further notice. Now they weren't imprisoned but they were effectively quarantined. Whether Dorn did this over concerns and mistrust of his gifted sons, or if the primarch could perceive some other purpose for them remains to be fleshed out. Personally i think it was a little of both.

So as i am a super adherent to the fluff, ive not converted a librarian because of this.......but now things have changed. With the timeline creeping closer to the siege of Terra, and a time when all legions used anything they had on hand (including witchy mind bullets) to fight the enemy, i felt a little more at peace with building and using a librarian, mind you only for games set close to the siege of Terra time.

A Galaxy in FlamesThis particular librarian i've converted with the vision of a senior librarian prior to the edict of Nikea being enforced, stripped of position and rank, confined to barracks on the phalanx but then re-instated when everything sideways with Horus's assault on Sol. He has legion command insignia, with Terra unification honours. I modelled him no other weapons other than his force staff to try give the feel his powers are what he has come to rely upon. The pose was intended to not be one indicating direct fighting as i have a preference for the divination powers and i wanted to showing him acting in a support role because of his powers.

And the final touch i wanted to portray was the eagle topped staff and book on his waist, little signs of the Lectitio Divinatus creeping into the legions, almost as a direct opposite to the taint of the warrior lodges. Being a Terran born fist i felt he would be more susceptible to the teachings that the Emperor was indeed a god, even though it being contrary to the Imperial Truth.

Raven Guard Commanders

G'day all, Macca here with a "by request" post.

I recently showed the full Legion assembled together and was asked if I could show the individual commanders. So, as I aim to please (everyone except Keepy, the jerk), here they are:

Alvarex Maun, you can find out how I did this guy here.

Terran-born Commander, with a home-made shield. I built it as I didn't like the existing ones and wanted something more slab sided and breacher siege shield like. It's also worth noting he was the first true model painted for the army, so a lot more technique was developed just from working on him. Side note, the shield is magnetised at the wrist joint, I can put any ranged weapon or CC weapon I like on that left hand.

Strike Captain Aggapito, one of the Dropsite Survivors, I use him as a Praetor for most games.

A Praetor OR Consul, with twin Ravens Talons. The claws are converted from 40k Warp Talon ones, as when I built him, the 'finger nails' type claws weren't for sale.

Legion Champion, possibly the famous Sharrowkyn.... we'll never know....

Legion Chaplain, an early attempt at a chaplain, this guy isn't used post-Istvaan, because all of the chaplains were killed...

Legion Librarian, Pre-Nikea, or a while into the Heresy, I have him in the list, but I am not likely to use him very often. At first, he was THE go-to guy, but since Alvarex Maun has been so insanely good, I think I'd like to add either a Master of Signals or a Deep-Strike capable Praetor/Consul to give some more edge to the list. Side note, his pack is magnetic and I can give him a jump pack instead.

So there they are, I have a Master of Signals, Vigilator and a very special Moriat on the way, as well as some more RG infantry, so I guess my next post will feature the infantry, at a guess.

Hope to see you all next time, Macca

Emperor's Children Consul (Librarian) Part One

Howdy all, Wadey here! Well now that I am finally home I've been able to get stuck into building my Emperor's Children army. After chatting with Macca and Keepy and getting some great ideas I decided I would make my own MKIV Consul (Librarian).

Now some of you may know the model I've used as the base in which to convert to III Legion. I've used none other than the Red Scorpions Librarian Sevrin Loth, as pictured below.

Now I've always been a firm believer that 'less is more' when doing conversions and as you will see by making a few simple changes to Sevrin Loth I now have an excellent looking MKIV Consul for my Emperor's Children.

The first area of Loth I changed was his shoulder pads. This area of the model alone is probably the most important identifier of Legion and also the prestige of the model. To start with I did what would be his right shoulder pad. I decided to use the shoulder pad with the giant Aquila across it with the Red Scorpions symbol in the middle pictured below.

To convert the shoulder pad to III Legion I simply used a sharp blade carefully remove the RS symbol in the centre, then using a roman numeral III I got from the RS etched brass kit I super glued the III in the place of the removed RS symbol.

For the left arm shoulder pad I used a MKIII Emperor's Children shoulder pad. The idea was that the more elaborate trim around the edge the pad would have more of a HQ look to it when mixed with the MKIV armour.

The next step after the arms were done was to make a few changes to Loth himself. With some Emperor's Children etched brass, a sharp blade and a little green stuff this was easily achieved. The first step was to use a sharp blade to carefully remove all of the pattern and heraldry from Loth's chest. Once the chest was nice and flat and clear of all existing markings I carefully glued one of the EC Aquila's found in the EC etched brass kit.
Then, using some green stuff I filled in the markings inscribed into Loth's right shin. Only the smallest amount is needed so for those of you who want to convert one for our own armies keep that in mind. Once the green stuff had hardened I then glued one of the etched brass wreaths from the EC etched brass kit. A little hint when applying etched brass is to bend the brass as much and as close to the shape you want it as possible before applying, it makes life a whole lot easier I find.

From there I have simply magnetized his back to allow me the option of putting a jump pack on him and when wearing a normal back pack I've changed the one he came with for a regular MKIV pack.

Well that's it for now guys, watch this space for the next part of my Consul, I may have some friends to go with him! Thanks heaps for stopping by!
